Review the truck and the business together
A food truck combines driving, food service and equipment in a small space. Describe all three when requesting insurance. A business policy and vehicle policy address different risks; do not assume one automatically covers everything.
Bring your vehicle details, driver list, equipment values, cooking setup, operating locations and any event or commissary contract. Explain whether you also cater or deliver.
Questions for your broker
- Driving: Does the proposed commercial auto policy include this truck, its business use and its drivers?
- Customers: How would the policy address a customer injury or a claim involving food you serve?
- Equipment: Which policy addresses cooking equipment, a generator, inventory and damage while traveling?
- Operations: Ask about refrigeration failure, spoiled stock and interruption of business; these should not be assumed included.
- Contracts and staff: Bring required limits and certificate wording, and discuss employee injury coverage.
Eligibility, exclusions and available options depend on the insurer and the specific operation. This checklist is not a coverage offer or a promise that CoverToday can place every food truck.
