Review both policies
If you hold a commercial driver’s license, do not assume a ticket matters only to the vehicle you were driving. Driving history is relevant to auto insurance pricing. Ask the insurer how the specific violation and its final disposition affect your personal auto and commercial coverage; an exact price change cannot be determined from the ticket alone. The California Department of Insurance auto guide explains coverage and rating considerations.
Bring the facts to the conversation
Prepare the citation, court notices, current declarations pages and renewal dates. Identify the vehicle involved and whether it was being used for work. You can request your California driving record from the DMV and check it for accuracy.
Ask which policy is affected, what information the insurer needs and when any change would apply. Do not assume a traffic-school course will remove the insurance effect of a commercial-license violation. Eligibility and record treatment should be confirmed with the court or DMV; an agent cannot promise dismissal or a premium reduction.
